Trawsnewid Bangor Transition
Steering Group Meeting
Tues 27th October 2009 at Greenhouse
Present
Thomas, Nick, Trish, Angharad, Franklin, Jon
• Grants through Greenhouse
• Minutes from last meeting follow up
• Website maintenance
• Social Event
• 10/10
• Other business
• Grants and other support offered by Greenhouse
Greenhouse has capacity to support TBT through:
- a physical base (space to meet, and facilities)
- a ‘support’ base (access to grants through Greenhouse’s administrative & financial capacity, and status as a company limited by guarantee)
Supporting the activities of TBT will, in turn, help Greenhouse to establish charitable status (- which would then open up more grants, etc).
Franklin invites TBT to consider whether to accept this support. The interim consensus is that in principle we are happy to accept. TBT needs support while establishing itself as a solid group (with fully-fledged sub-groups)…
…however, we do need to be careful to leave the future open.
Action Point: We need to consider:
- the implications (both positive and negative) of applying for grants – and of not applying
- if any, what kind of grants would be applied for (i.e. how much money? For what kinds of activities? With what level of commitment?)
- This could affect the group’s activities significantly. Would it be appropriate to ask the wider members of TBT?
Action Point: Franklin to bring next meeting
- something in writing describing such an agreement between TBT and GH
- details of grants available, for an informed discussion on the subject.
• Website maintenance
Action Point: Thomas, Nick, Jon and Angharad to meet at 4pm on Thursday 5th November at Greenhouse, to go through maintenance.
• Social event
Treborth doesn’t seem big enough to comfortably accommodate our event – consensus was that Hendre would be more appropriate after all. It was decided to defer the event until after Christmas, to allow more time to organise this (and to contact the local groups we wish to invite, in order to check the level of interest, how much notice people would prefer, etc.).
Action Point: Franklin to find out Hendre’s availability in the New Year, and to arrange a date for the event, if possible.
Action Point: Nick to revise the previous invitation to be more of a ‘communication’ (without dates & details) – to be used to send word out & gage reaction
• 10:10
Action Point (carried forward): Some thought needs to be given to how we are going to measure this.
• Other business…
Trish has written a summary of the Transition Handbook, with particular focus on
issues of relevance to Anglesey. She has actively disseminated this and talked about it with local groups (the Womens’ Institute, the Mothers’ Union, Llangefni Allotments Association…). There have been positive reactions and genuine concern. This kind of work is extremely valuable in forging links between local groups - and between Bangor and the wider rural communities.
Action Point: Thomas to scan the summary, and convert to text (or Trish to find the memory-stick!) – we will then post this on the website.
• Date of next meeting
Tuesday, 10th November 5:30-7:30
